Auguste Renoir

Pierre-Auguste Renoir, born in 1841 and known as Auguste Renoir, is one of the most famous French painters. A fully-fledged member of the Impressionist group in the 1860s, he will evolve towards a more realistic style starting at the end of the XIXth century. His paintings deal with simple topics related to daily life, which he treats in an opluent and sensual manner, and he attaches a great importance to the difficulty of reproducing light. He developed an original way of painting that transcended his first influences, and over a period of sixty years he made more than 4,000 paintings.
