Delacroix
Eugène Delacroix was a French painter and a major figure of romance, appeared in France in the early nineteenth century. Although finding support from the press, art magazines and some critics of the time (Theophile Gautier and Charles Baudelaire), his genius will only belatedly recognized by the official painting circles. It will triumph in 1855 at the Universal Exhibition where he becomes the one who has overcome classical training to renew the paint. He was elected to the Institut de France as January 10, 1857 at the headquarters of Paul Delaroche, after seven unsuccessful nominations. His work, which shows great mastery of color, inspired many painters such as Vincent Van Gogh. The Duke of Morny, president of the legislature and half-brother of Napoleon III, also of Delacroix the official painter of the Second.
