Raoul Dufy

Raoul Dufy is a French painter, watercolourist and amazing draftsman, he first turned to impressionism but soon got closer to fauvism and underwent some cubist influences. He was inspired by several modernist currents which made him a unique artist. He also excelled in the composition of sets and costumes for the French comedy. In the following decade he achieved his own pictorial style, the "comma" touch, all in vivacity and conciseness, characterized by a free and supple graphics, clear colour patches autonomous from the contours, applied to cheerful and lively subjects such as seashores, races, cities, orchestras...
