Mary Cassatt

Mary Cassatt is a XIXth century painter from a family of French immigrants. She left America in 1851 with her family and settle in Europe and later in Paris. She took her first drawing classes un 1855 after returning to America and discovered a passion for art. Thanks to her study of Rubens in Spain she acquired the sense of the light and the colors. While following Gérôme she discovered the impressionism and painted the “Mandolin player” or “Ida”. She participated at some impressionist painter exhibition and works with Pissarro. Mary decided to make portraits of mothers and children, which became her favorite subject of study.
