Édouard Manet

Édouard Manet was a major French painter of the late XIXth century. The instigator of modern painting, Manet is wrongly considered today as one of the fathers of Impressionism. His work shares certain traits with this movement, like the use of certain recurrent themes like portraits, marine landscapes, still lifes and Parisian life, He approaches it through certain recurring themes such as portraits, seascapes and still lifes, or even Parisian life. But Manet's work differs from Impressionism in its focus on realism; it does not use the same coloring techniques nor does it stress the depiction of light, then in vogue.
