Tac au Tac is Back !

For the less wrinkled amongst us, Tac au Tac (Tit for tat) was a programme broadcast on French television between 1969 and 1975.
Produced by Jean Frapat, it brought together illustrators and cartoonists, mostly from the illustrated press or publishing. Collaborating together or competing against each other, the guests took part in improvised drawing battles and games, often collective, with various rules inspired by Surrealist games like the exquisite corpse (cadavre exquis in the French).

MUSEUM has rebooted the production of Tac au tac (Tit for tat), the cult TV programme from the 1970s devoted to illustration, with 20 new episodes coming on air from January 2018.

MUSEUM has joined forces with Effervescence Label and Laurent Frapat, the son of the original TV show’s creator to update this iconic programme with 20 new episodes produced in UHD 4K!

The crème de la crème of today’s illustrators and cartoonists take up the challenge in the footsteps of their illustrious elders.

The concept of the programme remains practically the same.  Once again, the show brings together key figures from the world of animation and illustration and invites them to participate in various games and contests. The best of improvised drawing … live!

– The exquisite corpse: in this exercise directly inspired by the Surrealist game, the guests are invited to draw in turn, from left to right on the same sheet of paper, but each artist covers the sheet after his/her contribution, leaving only a tiny section of his/her drawing visible for the next person to complete it;

– The trap: a guest draws several copies of one of his favourite figures, and co-participants provide the figure with a certain number of obstacles or challenges (by drawing a hole under his feet, a cliff about to collapse, a falling flowerpot, a threatening lion, a hidden attacker, etc.). Finally the first illustrator returns to the floor to save the figure with the help of another drawing;

– The tower: the guests contribute in turns to a collective drawing, adding elements that change or alter the situation;

– The fresco: the guests draw together and at the same time on a given theme and in large format.  Dominique Poncet, artistic director and Laurent Frapat, producer.
