Caspar David Friedrich

Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840) is a German Romantic painter who concentrated mainly on landscape art, which he rendered in minute detail. He was rediscovered at the end of the 19th century. A melancholy character, he peopled his canvases with human figures seen from behind, contemplating the enormity of nature, for example in his famous “The Wanderer above the Mists” in Hamburg or the “Chalk Cliffs on Rügen”. Notice his superb landscapes with their twilight tones. Enjoy your visit!
