Woman’s Head by Pablo Picasso

Woman’s Head by Pablo Picasso
The world’s largest museum… Is the museum of artworks that have been stolen over the centuries and that were never recovered. They haunt the nights of their owners and occupy the days of a few hundred police officers around the world and a handful of private agencies. Not a single country, not a single major museum, can claim to have been spared. According to Interpol, art theft ranks fourth among criminal enterprises, behind drug trafficking, arms trafficking, and money laundering. How could it be otherwise, given that soaring prices have pushed the value of certain paintings to tens of millions of euros? This world seems full of mysteries. The criminal underworld’s elite rubs shoulders with small-time, jack-of-all-trades thugs, and the police are less interested in arresting the criminals than in recovering the loot... The aim of the documentary series “Stolen Treasures” is to chronicle events that are often spectacular and incredible: major art heists. But beyond these stories, it also seeks to take viewers on a journey through art history.
