Zodiacal Tablets

Zodiacal Tablets
The Grand Zodiacal tablets have intrigued Gallo-Roman specialists since they were discovered at the bottom of a well in a small village in the Vosges 50 years ago. These two small ivory tablets, which are almost 2000 years old, represent an enigmatic sky map: in the centre, the sun and the moon, and all around, the signs of the Zodiac. A second circle represents the decans in the form of small Egyptian characters... Another enigma: the tablets were found by archaeologists broken into hundreds of small pieces.... So why were they destroyed? We conducted an investigation from the Epinal Museum, where the Grand tablets are kept, to Egypt, via the Louvre Museum.
