Tarquin And Lucretia - Titian

Tarquin And Lucretia - Titian
It is one of the masterpieces of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux. "Tarquin and Lucretia" was painted by Titian in the last years of his life. The great master of Venetian painting was at the height of his powers. His reputation had long since spread beyond the borders of the Serenissima, and the greatest European collectors sought him out. At the beginning of the 19th century, it was sent to the newly opened Musée des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux. But doubts began to arise as to its attribution. Its authenticity was questioned. The two fires that ravaged the Bordeaux town hall in the second half of the 19th century were the final blow. From the canals of Venice to the Château de Versailles, we have conducted an investigation to retrace the incredible story of "Tarquin and Lucretia".
