Vladimir Velickovic is a painter who was born on August 11, 1935 in Belgrade (Yugoslavia) and died on August 29, 2019 in Split (Croatia). He has lived and worked in Paris since 1965. In 2014, François Catonné was able to film the painter at work. In this film, alone with the filmmaker, we see him working a very large drawing of 225x165cm. He begins it in the whiteness of the immense canvas covered with paper and the filmmaker will follow his work to the finished work. While he draws, Velickovic tells himself. He reflects aloud on the composition of the work, the elements he draws, shares his hesitations, reflects on the progress of the drawing and its composition, accompanied by the squeaks of the pen that attacks the paper, depositing the Chinese ink. Vladimir Velickovic made his first solo exhibition at 18 and was immediately successful. He has paintings in museums around the world and many books have been devoted to him including a monograph of nearly 500 pages in 2013. He is a member of the Academy of Fine Arts, has taught 18 years at the 'School of Fine Arts. He is a star and a very important character in his home country, Serbia.
