Episode 2
Kate continues her journey through the gallery’s 200 year history with a look at the Turner bequest. In 1856, Britain’s most important painter, JMW Turner, gave over 1000 paintings, drawings and watercolours to the nation. Initially, these had to be housed off-site, but a further expansion brought them into the National Gallery. Curators show Kate around some of the jewels in the National Gallery crown: the impressionist works by Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Georges Seurat.
