Animals
This week the public must sniff out the fake amongst the animal paintings in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. In doing so, they will discover how the depictions of animals in British art chart social changes from the C18th onwards; from the magnificent horse and hunting paintings that reflects the wealth and status of Georgian aristocrats, to the melodrama and sentimentality in Victorian depictions of devoted dogs. From the anatomical genius of George Stubbs to the vivid storytelling of Edwin Landseer. The meticulous copy of an original masterpiece of animal art was created by Nicholas Pace, who studied the artist's original techniques and methods and painstakingly recreated them. Hosted by Giles Coren alongside Rose Balston, an art historian who provides insight into the painting and techniques of the era.
