Landscapes
This week it’s landscape paintings in the National Museum, Cardiff that are under scrutiny, as the public look closely at rolling hills and roaring waves produced by artists Richard Wilson and JMW Turner. In tracking down which one of the paintings is a fake, they will explore the pioneering spirit of Wilson's C18th works. His classical landscapes were to inspire the great JMW Turner, who re-traced Wilson's footsteps as part of his love affair with the landscape of the British Isles. Turner would go on to explore new colours, materials and techniques that took the landscape genre forward into the modern era. The copy has been meticulously recreated by Antonia Williams, an artist and copyist whose painting will challenge people's perceptions and celebrate the story of British art. Hosted by Giles Coren and art historian Rose Balston.
