Walton Ford

Walton Ford
His works combine monumentality of formats (sometimes over three meters long) and miniaturist precision. Originally painted in watercolor, they are akin to the finest zoological boards edited the nineteenth century. Scientific diverted from their destination, these meticulous drawings made color are a rich exotic wildlife, inhabited by elephants, tigers, monkeys, rhinos, lions, birds ... This wildlife borrows the aesthetics of American cartoons of the years 60-70. The fierce humor as the symbolism of this painting is part of the filiation of Surrealists. Ford plays with the criteria of kitsch, attempts to subvert this form of academicism of contemporary art inherited from Marcel Duchamp. The twenty works together representing more than fifteen years of creation. Ten of them have been specially created for the exhibition, over the past two years. Walton Ford was born in 1960. He lives and works in New York.
