Art Spiegelman is an American comic book author and illustrator. A leading figure of the American underground comic strip of the 1970s-1980s, and a renowned illustrator, he became best known in the mid-1980s for his comic strip Maus, which tells the story of the transmission of the memory of the Holocaust, in particular the persecution and extermination of Jews in Poland by the Nazis in the 1930s and 1940s, through the biography of his father.
