Emma Donnersberg Gallery, a Parisian premiere

Born in Paris and trained in the United States, Emma Donnersberg, now recognised as a designer and interior architect, has returned to the capital to pursue her creative career. With collections that are beginning to make their mark on the international scene, the artist is opening a new gallery in Paris's 7th arrondissement.

Nestled at the end of a courtyard in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighbourhood, Emma Donnersberg has opened her first Parisian gallery. Juggling between new collections located at the entrance to the gallery and timeless pieces at the far end, several spaces have been created. With a lounge area, dining room and entrance hall, the architect has designed the gallery as a place where all visitors can wander freely.

Accompanied by various artists in her gallery, the interior designer chose paintings by Mexican artist Ileana García Magoda and her series ‘Without this longing’ for this opening. Emma Donnersberg met García Magoda during a trip to Mexico and fell in love with her work, sparking a new collaboration. With vibrant flora featured throughout García Magoda's works, a genuine dialogue has developed between the two artists.

Nature as inspiration

My inspiration comes naturally, from observing nature, walking, observing various landscapes...’ explains Emma. Known for her refined and organic style, the designer seeks a direct connection with nature. A cloud-shaped chair, a mushroom stool or a pebble-like table: each piece is linked to the others, creating a veritable ecosystem. With movement present throughout the furniture, it appears animated, full of life, avoiding the pitfalls of repetition and standardisation.

While the imagination behind these collections seems clear and natural to Emma Donnersberg, her research into their creation is extremely meticulous. During her many travels, the architect has opened herself up to various local skills, inspiring her to use these methods in the creation of her pieces.

“With local expertise, I am learning a great deal; it is truly a collaboration between myself and the artisans.”

Seeking out the best artisans in Europe, Emma Donnersberg emphasises the importance of this collaborative work: ‘Without the artisans, the pieces wouldn't be there. It's really 50/50, the work of the designer and that of the artisan.’

“It comes from a need.”

Starting with a sketch, then developed in collaboration with her teams before going into production, all of the designer's pieces are a source of real pride for her. Much more than just a job, making furniture is a necessity for Emma Donnersberg. ‘It comes from a need; for me, it's a way of expressing myself and existing,’ she says.

With this new gallery, the interior designer further expresses her artistry, attracting enthusiasts and curious visitors alike. Open at 60 Rue de Verneuil, everyone is invited to wander through the designer's world.
