Inside the Uffizi

In 2015, Freiburg art historian Eike Schmidt was the first non-Italian to be elected director of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The then 47-year-old German has the reputation of a doer and modernizer. With optimism, self-confidence and new ideas, Eike Schmidt faces the main problems of one of the most famous museums in the world and the challenge to bring the venerable house into the 21st century.
