After the tsunami in Japan in March 2011, a collective of architects led by Toyo Ito launched the “houses for all” project, collective spaces for the inhabitants of devastated towns. Three young architects, Su Fujimoto, Kumiko Inui and Akihisa Hirata, are building one of these houses in Rikuzentakata. Using trees from the destroyed forest, they create an image of a house with a pointed roof, pierced by 19 trunks. Winding around the interior spaces, a promenade alternates between staircases and terraces, facing the landscape: the grid of streets, the only trace of the vanished city.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
