It is the first museum built as such in France. But its construction was not easy. The Museum was initially intended to be a &#8220;Petit Louvre&#8221;, a palace. It was only gradually, over a construction site that lasted 40 years &#8211; a record! &#8211; and through spectacular reassessments, that the Museum triumphed over the Monument, that the architectural object adapted to its true function.
