A fully-fledged member of the Impressionist group in the 1860s, he will evolve towards a more realistic style starting at the end of the XIXth century. His paintings deal with simple topics related to daily life, which he treats in an opluent and sensual manner, and he attaches a great importance to the difficulty of reproducing light.
