His paintings of prostitutes and dancers gave him a reputation around the Parisian cabarets and the artistic places. He also made canvases that became famous for Le Moulin Rouge or Le Chat Noir. Then sent to psychiatric hospital in February 1899, he create a series of 39 drawings of a circus with his memory.
