On the occasion of the creation of a new work for the Center Pompidou-Metz, France, "Chromatic Environment", the Franco-Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez tells the singularity of his work: a relationship to color that puts the viewer in the center a very personal interaction. An intimate portrait of this artist, a central figure in Optical Art and a forerunner of Street Art, who died on July 27th 2019, at the age of 95, a few months after this film.
Carlos Cruz-Diez has constructed his discourse on color, its instability and the movement that accompanies it. "I've always wanted to cast the color beyond its support, project it into space," he explains, "the color is autonomous, fleeting, in perpetual motion. to maintain in the past, but color is like life: a permanent present. "
The Center Pompidou-Metz asked him to imagine the space around the museum and to conceive an artistic work, as part of an exhibition devoted to color. Thus, Carlos Cruz-Diez imagined several ways to invest this space. This film follows the conception and the realization of this work, since its parisian workshop of the 18th district with the Center Pompidou-Metz. Through this creation, it is a portrait that takes shape and the journey of a great master of contemporary art, generous and full of humor, which is traced.
